Gering Man Arrested on Attempted Murder Charge

A 35-year-old Gering man has been arrested on Attempted 1st Degree Murder charges following a shooting in the Main Street Market parking lot in Scottsbluff.

Alexander Maldonado is accused of shooting 34-year-old Martin Maldonado Jr. in the chest shortly after 5 p.m.

Officers arrived on scene shortly after, and were able to take the shooter into custody, while the victim was transported to Regional West for treatment, but his condition was not available as he was not listed in the hospital directory.

Maldonado, a Corrections Officer at the Wyoming Medium Corrections Institution in Torrington, remains hospitalized according to a release from Paul Martin with the Wyoming Department of Corrections.

Alexander Maldonado is expected to make his first appearance on charges this morning in Scotts Bluff County Court.
