November 23rd, 2022 | Scott Miller

The Pumpkin Patch at BE Farm in Bayard has shifted its seasonal focus to Christmas, and is now offering trees, wreaths and garland.

Owner Billy Estes says the idea has been in the works for a couple of years, and earlier this month he pulled the trigger and bought a variety of trees from the coast of Oregon.

“We have a couple of different varieties that you normally don’t see in Nebraska,” says Estes. “We have Nordmann Fir, Noble Fir, Douglas Fir, and then we have just a few Fraser Firs. So super excited to have these fresh trees, they were just harvested last weekend, so coming out this Thanksgiving weekend will ensure the best and freshest tree for you.”

Trees will range between $90 and go up to about $215 for the giant 9 foot trees; garland will sell at $3.50 a foot.

Estes says there a so few options in Morrill and Box Butte Counties to purchase a live tree, and his farm offers the full holiday experience.

“Coming to BE Farm has always been about getting into the country a little ways, creating those memories with your family. It’s a great place to get away from town as well as support your local farmer.

This Sunday, there will be live reindeer at the farm from noon to 3 p.m., and throughout the season there will be photo opportunities with several different festive backdrops, concessions for purchase, and a bonfire for marshmallow roasting.

Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the weekends. They are located at 11249 County Road 73 in Bayard, just a half mile west of Link 62A.
