Acting United States Attorney Jan W. Sharp announced today that the federal Grand Jury for the District of Nebraska has returned 15 unsealed Indictments charging 17 defendants.
One of those defendants is 62-year-old George Liakos of Bayard, who is charged in a five-count Indictment. Counts one through four charges Liakos with bank fraud from June 2017 continuing through November 2018.
Count five charges the defendant with false statements on February 9th, 2018.
The maximum possible penalty if convicted is 35 years’ imprisonment, and a $1.25 million fine.
The second Panhandle man indicted is 41-year-old Ryan Arrants of Alliance. He’s charged in a three-count Indictment including charges of Distribution of Methamphetamine; Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime; and Possession with the Intent to Distribute More than 50 grams or More of Methamphetamine.
The charges come from crimes committed in April and August of this year. Arrants could be facing up to life in prison if convicted and receiving the maximum sentence.
