Legion baseball: Gering downs Alliance, WESTCO falls in games at North Platte

We had a busy night of Legion baseball coverage on Thursday with a three games total as the WESTCO Zephyrs fell in their road doubleheader at North Platte while Gering stayed perfect to start their season with a home win over Alliance.

PVC gets shutout win over Alliance

Carter Reisig got the start for Gering last night and he went ahead and just finished the game as well. Reisig with a complete game effort allowing just two hits and he struck out eight with four walks.

Jahrell Mendez drove in three runs and had one of the teams two extra base hits while Jackson Howard had Gering’s only multi-hit game.

Gering improved to 2-0 with the win and they’ll host the Platte Valley Companies Tournament this weekend with games at Oregon Trail Park starting Friday morning at 10 am. Gering will open the tournament tomorrow night against Wheatland at 5:30.

The other teams in town for the tournament this weekend are Gordon-Rushville, Wheatland, Douglas, Casper, Chadron, Buckley, and Alliance.

In the JR’s action last night Alliance beat B&C Steel by the final of 14-11.

Zephyrs stay winless with losses at North Platte

Wednesday night was a struggle for the WESTCO Zephyrs in their doubleheader losses at North Platte.

The Nationals took game one 11-3 before rolling in the second game 12-0.

WESTCO collected a total of just five hits combined in the two games with RBI going to Moi Panduro and Cortez Palomo.

The inning that epitomized the night was the first inning of game two when the Z’s committed five errors to go along with three walks as North Platte opened the game with a five run inning.

In that second game Zephyrs pitchers walked a total of nine batters while hitting two others.

The Zephyrs game tomorrow against Douglas has been canceled and they’ll now host Lexington in a doubleheader on Saturday.

In JR’s action last night at Cleveland Field the Express split their games with North Platte, dropping game one 12-3 and then winning the second game 11-10.
