HS Sports: Notes on volleyball, cross country, football

Let’s get to some high school sports notes for Thursday as the fall sports season is in wind down mode. Football playoffs starting today for smaller schools, cross country runners at the state meet tomorrow, plus we’ve got a pair of volleyball matches on the network tonight.

We’ll start with our two broadcasts…

Gering at Bridgeport, 6 pm…Catch this match tonight on KNEB.tv, ALLO 15, Mobius 1500 plus the Gering STRIV channel, and KMOR 93.3 FM (KMORfm.com). Pregame coverage with Jeff Kelley will start at roughly 5:45. (remember these are estimated start times with usually two matches taking place before the varsity contest, so we’ll have pregame about 15 minutes ahead of first serve.

Torrington at Scottsbluff, 7 pm…It’s the final home regular season match for Scottsbluff and we’ll have radio coverage only on 106.9 The Trail (KHYYfm.com) starting at approximately 6:45.

Also tonight: Alliance at Chadron

State Cross Country – Friday in Kearney

The State Cross Country meet will take place tomorrow at the Kearney Country Club with plenty of area teams and runners taking part.

On the team side of things Gering got both their girls and boys teams qualified through from Districts. Gering girls won the district title while the boys finished in second place. Gering junior Maddie Seiler will be going for a second straight state title tomorrow.

Scottsbluff runners competing tomorrow will be Kaylee Charbonneau, Hannah Rugroden, Hans Bastron, and James Adams.

In Class C the Sidney girls and boys teams are both running as full squads tomorrow after sweeping first place finishes at districts last week.

The Morrill girls team won a district title last week and they’ll be on hand tomorrow as well. Also getting to state is the Hemingford boys team.

The NSAA has all things State Cross Country listed hear including all the runners in all classes that will be competing by CLICKING HERE.

Playoff Football

The postseason starts today in D1 and D2 for teams across the state and then for the other classes it’s the final regular season game on Friday.

Here’s a list of the teams from the area with playoff games today in D2 (No D1 teams of note from the region).

  • #12 Hyannis at #5 Leyton
  • #14 Loomis at #3 Mullen
  • #11 Blue Hill at #6 Garden County
  • #16 Lawrence-Nelson vs. #1 Sandhills/Thedford (at Dunning)

It’s a 32 team bracket with two teams at each of those seeding lines. That bracket will be re-seeded following round one.
