January 26th, 2023 | Chris Cottrell

On Wednesday afternoon the NSAA voted 8-0 in awarding Scottsbluff/Gering the Girls Class B State Golf Tournament for four more years, starting with the upcoming fall championships in 2023 and running through 2026.

The Scottsbluff/Gering contingency that gave the presentation for the NSAA traveled back yesterday and committee member, Scottsbluff High School Activities Director Dave Hoxworth, glad to bring the event back to the western end of the state again.

“So we’re just excited to announce that for today. Great for our community. Couldn’t do it without our sponsors and volunteers that make it all possible.”

There’s no official word yet on how the tournament will rotate during the four years between the Scotts Bluff Country Club and Monument Shadows Golf Course but committee member Amy Seiler made it clear that it’s the quality of the courses that was a big determining factor in getting this event back in the region.

“I think the past success of girls and boys Class B State Golf, a lot of that credit, I believe, needs to go to our golf course superintendents, Tom Walsh at Monument Shadows and Todd Orton at Scotts Bluff Country Club. I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding work that our golf pros, Robert Thomason with Monument Shadows Golf Course and Max Hadenfeldt at Scotts Bluff Country Club. These individuals have incredible attention to detail and have made our courses our courses top notch tournament courses.”

On top of the great work done by both hosting venues the committee members couldn’t stress enough the importance of “community” in making this possible, from sponsors, to volunteers, to the commitment to work together from both Scottsbluff and Gering schools.

While Scottsbluff/Gering was awarded Class B the other hosting sites will be Grand Island for Class A and North Platte gets Class C.
