There will be a new City Manager taking the helm in Alliance later this year, as the City Council Tuesday night unanimously approved a contract with Seth Sorensen.

Sorensen was the Council’s choice last December, but decided not to sign an agreement, due in part to the pandemic and timing for his family according to Mayor Mike Dafney.

Following that situation, the council authorized the mayor and city clerk to conduct an open-ended process in which candidates who had applied would be vetted on a preliminary basis for presentation to city leaders for further consideration.

Dafney tells KNEB News while the city continued their search, the lines of communication with Sorensen remained open. “As we visited, a lot of it was just friendly banter back and forth, as we had established a friendship there during that period in December,” said Dafney. “Every now and then I would gouge him a little bit about the job, and last week we just got into it a little bit more. I told him we were still looking, and the offer would probably still be available.”

Dafney says the agreement with Sorensen is essentially the same as what was offered last year.

Sorensen’s start date is set to be June 1st.
