Eustis, Neb. — Significant fire damage was done to a home in Eustis over the weekend. Firefighter Morgan Smith says shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, Eustis Volunteer Fire Department (Eustis VFD) was summoned to a structure fire on North Windom Street that was concentrated in the garage, but it also heavily damaged some rooms on the south end of the house and there was minor damage to the siding on a neighbor’s home to the south. Cozad and Farnam volunteer fire departments also responded…

Smith says firefighters had to deal with heavy smoke and quite a bit of fuel in the garage that made the fire difficult to get under control. He said there were two cars in the garage and one vehicle in the driveway…

Smith says the homeowner was at home at the time of the fire, but there were no injuries to anyone including firefighters. The State Fire Marshal is investigating, but there was no information available on what caused the fire. Smith says the preliminary estimate of the damage to the home, contents and vehicles is $300,000 plus.

Cozad brought a pumper and Farnam brought several vehicles and personnel. Smith estimated a total of 25 personnel responded to the scene to fight the fire.
