Broken Bow Seniors end losing streak against St. Paul

BROKEN BOW – The Broken Bow Senior Legion baseball team snapped a five game losing streak on Sunday with a 5-3 victory over St. Paul.

Broken Bow jumped in front on a solo home run by Caden Holm in the first inning. A sacrifice fly by Hagen Campbell in the second and a Brice Chaplin RBI single in the third made it a 3-0 advantage.

St. Paul took advantage of a pair of fielding errors and some wild pitching in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.

Broken Bow was able to reclaim the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a two run single from Owen Hartman and Carter Johnson was able to shut down St. Paul’s bats to finish off the win.

Holm pitched three and two thirds hitless innings while striking out six with two batters hit by pitches. Johnson tossed three and one third with two hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Earlier in the day the Broken Bow Juniors fell to St. Paul 11-7.

After St. Paul scored first Broken Bow took the lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI triple by Max Denson followed by Denson stealing home to make it 2-1.

Broken Bow’s defense faltered in the top of the second inning as three straight errors helped St. Paul score five runs to make it 6-2.

Broken Bow was able to get three runs back to cut it to a one run game, but St. Paul scored four more in the top of the fifth to put it out of reach.

The home team committed ten total errors in the game.

Denson finished 2-for-2 at the plate with two walks, two RBI and two runs. Chaplin was 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Broken Bow will be back on the road Tuesday as both squads visit Ogallala.
