Overview:
The Winnebago Girls Basketball Team is under new leadership as Marquel Harlan takes over the program for Treivan Bear, who is now coaching the Boys.
Coach Harlan is a 2014 Winnebago grad, and served as an assistant for the Girls last year.
She talks about the make up of this year’s team.
Coach Harlan says weightroom attendance and numbers were good this summer.
I think the Indians are going to be pretty good this season.
Winnebago has some kids returning and up and coming, and the strength and conditioning program appears as if it is going to really benefit the team this year.
Season Outlook:
The Winnebago Girls appear as if they’re refreshed and ready to go this year.
Coach Harlan says the team really focused on conditioning the first 2-3 weeks of practice.
Winnebago will look to run and gun this year.
The Indians open up the season at Homer on Thursday.
Coach Harlan says the Knights pressed a lot last year.
She adds her team will look to get the ball inside a lot.
Both teams are young as well, according to Coach Harlan.
Winnebago is in Sub-District C1-5 with West Point-Beemer, Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, Tekamah-Herman, and Wayne.
The schedule is definitely tough for the Indians this year, but I think Winnebago will play at a high level and compete hard all year long.
