UPDATE: Two Killed in Head-On Accident East of Wisner

WISNER – A two-vehicle fatality accident took place two miles east of Wisner on Highway 275 on Wednesday evening.

According to a news release from the Cuming County Sheriff’s Department, the accident happened just before 6:30 pm, and occurred when one vehicle crossed the center line on Highway 275 and entered the oncoming traffic lane, causing a head-on collision between the two vehicles.

The vehicles then caught fire soon after the collision.

The driver of the first vehicle, 56-year-old Lance Arthaloney of Lincoln, and the passenger of the second vehicle, 60-year-oldMartha Pena Rodriguez of West Point, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The second driver, 51-year-old Mario Albert Campos-Villalobos of West Point, was taken by helicopter to a Sioux City hospital.

Highway 275 between Wisner and Beemer was closed for approximately three hours and was reopened at around 10:00 pm.

Responding Departments and Assisting Agencies include Wisner Fire and Rescue, Wisner Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Beemer Fire and Rescue, Beemer Police Department, Cuming County Emergency Management, Nebraska Department of Roads, Aaron Beckman with the Norfolk Fire Division and the Cuming County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident remains under investigation.
