Two Bruins Named Baseball All-American Honorable Mention

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A pair of Bellevue University baseball student-athletes were named today by the NAIA-Baseball Coaches’ Association All-America Committee as Honorable Mention All-Americans.

Senior centerfielder Kanta Kobayashi (Tokyo, Japan) and junior pitcher Dustin Schorie (Chandler, Ariz.) each gained recognition via their performances over the course of the season.

Kobayashi, the NSAA Player of the Year, hit .392 with a 1.029 OPS, 24 extra-base hits, 40 RBI, and 15 stolen bases while drawing more walks than strikeouts. He led the Bruins in numerous offensive categories including; hits (89), runs (78), doubles (18), batting average, and on-base percentage (.487).

Schorie, a first team all-NSAA selection, posted a 9-0 record and 2.38 ERA in 12 appearances on the season, 11 of which came in starts. He struck out 77 batters as he logged 72 innings, including tossing six complete games and a pair of shutouts while opponents hit just .230 against him. Schorie recorded a save in his lone relief appearance as Bellevue defeated Southeastern.

The selections of Kobayashi and Schorie as Honorable Mention All-Americans mark the 13th-straight season in which Bellevue has had an All-American representative.

Bellevue wrapped up the 2023 season with a 48-10 overall record (25-3 NSAA), won their fourth-straight NSAA Regular-Season title. In postseason play, the Bruins claimed their fifth NSAA Tournament Championship, second-straight Opening Round title, and reached the Avista NAIA World Series for the third time in four years and 16th time overall.
