The Stanton Girls Basketball Team fell 55-35 to Wisner-Pilger in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament from Pender last Friday night before winning 56-34 over Twin River in a consolation game at Bancroft-Rosalie Monday night.

The Gators tripled up the Mustangs 15-5 in the 1st quarter, and outscored Stanton 19-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 34-13 lead into the locker room.

Wisner-Pilger doubled up the Mustangs 12-6 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 46-19 at the end of three.

Stanton outscored the Gators 16-9 in the 4th quarter.

Olivia Hupp had 8 points.

The Mustangs led the Titans 14-5 after the 1st quarter, and doubled up Twin River 10-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 24-10 lead into the locker room.

Stanton won the 3rd quarter 14-10 to extend their lead to 38-20 at the end of three.

The Mustangs won the 4th quarter 18-14.

Arynn Spence had 14 points while Olivia Cunningham totaled 13 points and 8 rebounds. Rebecca Stoddard added 11 points while Madison Mckie notched 7.

Stanton (7-13) plays host to Winside (7-13) Tuesday night.

The Wildcats fell 50-39 to Bloomfield in the 7th place game of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament at Hartington Cedar Catholic Friday night.

This figures to be a good game.

Winside lost to Plainview by 10 while the Mustangs lost to the Pirates by 6.

I think Stanton finds a way to pick up the win, given the fact they’re at home and everything of that sort.

Both teams are about even record wise, but I think Stanton being the larger school and playing the tough schedule they play gives them the upper hand in this one.

The Mustangs also get Clarkson/Leigh at home on Thursday so Stanton has to make the most of these final home games.

Stanton has to play hard and try and make things extra special this coming week.

This is it for these Seniors in terms of home games so they have to soak it all in and make the most of things.
