LINCOLN – State Senator Patty Pansing Brooks announced her run to represent Nebraska’s First Congressional District today. She will officially kick off the campaign at an event with supporters at 5:30 p.m. this evening at Lincoln Station Great Hall at 201 North 7th Street in Lincoln.

Pansing Brooks said she decided to enter the race because she believes CD1 needs a results-driven approach to problem solving.

“I believe the attributes that have made me an effective state senator are the same attributes we need in Washington, more than ever,” Pansing Brooks said. “Strong leaders collaborate. Strong leaders seek out those they sometimes disagree with to address the issues about which people care. I want to make this happen in Washington – and I want to make Washington more responsive to our District.”

Pansing Brooks said some of her most significant campaign issues will include economic and workforce development, infrastructure and health care.

“I’m fighting for an economy that works for all of us – for good jobs and a strong safety net that doesn’t let our neighbors fall through the cracks,” Pansing Brooks said. “I am fighting for health care for all Nebraskans, for benefits for veterans like my dad, for strong infrastructure, for a wide circle of compassion that lets everyone know they are welcome in our democracy, even when we disagree – particularly when we disagree.”

Pansing Brooks was first elected to the Nebraska Legislature in 2014. She has led significant legislative victories to protect victims of human trafficking, address Nebraska’s worker shortage, reform the juvenile justice system and protect marginalized communities, including Native Americans and LGBTQ+ Nebraskans.

Prior to tonight’s kickoff, Senator Pansing Brooks is also hitting the road to talk to media outlets in Norfolk, Columbus and Fremont. This will be the first of many tours of the district.

“I look forward to listening to all the people of Congressional District 1 and to learning more about the greatest issues of concern,” Pansing Brooks said.  “Together we can make Washington more responsive to our needs.”
