Oakland-Craig Football shutout at Hartington Cedar Catholic
October 14th, 2021 | Jeff Axtell

The Oakland-Craig Football Team fell 27-0 at Hartington Cedar Catholic Friday night.

Grady Gatewood was 11-22 passing for 127 yards and an interception.

Gatewood had 60 yards rushing on 16 carries.

Carson Thomsen made 5 catches for 57 yards.

Payton Novak made 13 tackles while Jt Brands had 10 and Trevor Weitzenkamp 7.

Tough and strange loss for the Knights.

Oakland-Craig (4-3) takes on Fremont Bergan (7-0) on the road Friday night.

Bergan won 69-14 at Tekamah-Herman last week.

O-C still might get into the playoffs even if they lose this game.

Oakland-Craig remained 14th in power points after last week’s loss, and so a loss to Bergan may not necessarily hurt them that much like the Cedar Catholic game didn’t.

You always try to win of course, but even if O-C were to lose to Bergan, as long as they beat David City next week they could very well get in.

And you know if O-C gets on the playoffs they can pull off an upset and make a run with the right matchup or matchups.

I don’t know how good a matchup Bergan is for them right now, but I guess we will find out come Friday night.

It’s Oakland-Craig, and I expect them to go into Bergan and compete.

The loss to Cedar Catholic was surprising just from a score standpoint, but O-C will look to correct things and right the ship this week.

It’s hard saying what is going to happen in this game exactly, but I think things have the potential to be close and competitive.

Bergan beat Aquinas 40-0 though so it could be that type of game in this one too, especially when you take into account last week’s Oakland-Craig game and O-C’s game with the Monarchs.
