Lyons-Decatur Northeast Boys off to 1-1 start
December 5th, 2022 | Jeff Axtell

The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Boys are 1-1 to start the year as the Cougars fell 79-47 at Omaha Nation in Thursday night’s season opener before winning 54-50 at home over Homer on Saturday.

The Cougars led the Knights 14-6 after one and 27-12 at halftime.

Homer won the 3rd quarter 18-13 to make it a 40-30 game at the end of three.

The Knights won the 4th quarter 20-14.

Great job by LDNE of responding after Thursday night’s loss. The Cougars came out and punched the Knights in the mouth in the first half and it really paid off in a big way.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast (1-1) hosts Walthill (0-2) Tuesday night.

The Blujays lost 74-34 at Winnebago Friday night.

It’s tough to gauge how good Walthill is as they’ve lost to two 2-0 teams.

I will say though I think LDNE has a shot to get the Blujays come Tuesday night.

If the Cougars play the way they did in the first half of the Homer game they’re going to win a lot of games this year.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to find a way to play like that for a full 32 minutes, and if they do look out.

The Cougars were super resilient from Thursday to Saturday and it showed early on on Saturday.

I think the big thing for LDNE is keeping the energy and enthusiasm up throughout the game.

The kids have to play with high and tremendous energy and be fired up at all times.

It’s easy to get lax or let the foot off the pedal when you build a lead, and at some point you do that, but the Cougars have to find a way to build such a big lead that they’re comfortably going to win.

That’s not going to happen all the time, but perhaps it’s something Lyons-Decatur Northeast can do the next time they’re up on a team the way they were against Homer at halftime.
