Iowa State Men too much for Arkansas-Pine Bluff

AMES, Iowa – Izaiah Brockington scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead No. 19 Iowa State past Arkansas-Pine Bluff 83-64 Wednesday night inside Hilton Coliseum. T.J. Otzelberger became the third of 21 Cyclone head coaches to start their career 7-0.

Brockington’s third double-double of the season came on a 10-of-20 shooting performance of the floor.

George Conditt IV tallied a season-high 11 points to go along with seven rebounds, five of which came at the offensive end of the floor. Tre Jackson joined Brockington and Conditt in double figures with a 12-point outing.

In total, Iowa State grabbed 17 offensive rebounds as it won the battle on the glass, 37-26. The Cyclones registered 18 second-chance points and scored 40 points in the paint compared to 22 by the Golden Lions. ISU shot 44.8 percent in the win, including 51.4 percent in the second half.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff led 9-5 with 12:48 to play in the first half as ISU started 2-of-14 from the floor and was held scoreless for nearly six minutes in the early goings. A 14-0 Cyclone run over the next four minutes, sparked by three offensive boards and a put-back from Conditt, gave Iowa State a 19-9 lead.

The Cyclones shot 9-of-16 (.562) from the floor in the final 12:07 and held the Golden Lions to just two points over the last three minutes of the period to lead at the break, 38-22.

ISU’s defense continued to clamp down in the second half as it held UAPB without a field goal for nearly five minutes. The Cyclones grabbed their largest lead of the contest, 68-38, on a Tyrese Hunter layup with 8:12 to play.
