Iowa State Men To Host Missouri In Big 12/SEC Challenge

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State men’s basketball team is set to face Missouri in the 2022 Big 12/SEC Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 29.

The Cyclones are 3-5 in the Big 12/SEC Challenge, which began in 2013. Iowa State’s last victory in the series came during the 2018-19 season, defeating No. 20 Ole Miss, 87-73, in Oxford, Miss. This will be the first time Iowa State has hosted a Big 12/SEC Challenge game at Hilton Coliseum since 2017-18 (vs. No. 22 Tennessee).

The Cyclones and Tigers will be meeting for the 236th time, with Missouri owning a 150-85 lead in the all-time series. ISU defeated Missouri, 76-59, in Hilton Coliseum the last time the programs met on Nov. 9, 2018. Iowa State is 23-20 all-time vs. Missouri inside Hilton Coliseum.

The ninth annual event will consist of 10 games as every Big 12 member faces 10 programs from the Southeastern Conference. This will mark the seventh consecutive year for all games to be played in one day. ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise the contests.

Big 12 teams are 44-35 (.557) in the Big 12/SEC Challenge. The Big 12 has a yearly Challenge record of 4-2-2 with wins in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019. One game was canceled in 2021 due to COVID. Ties occurred in 2017 and 2020. In case of a tie, the trophy stays with the conference that won it the previous season.
