March 13th, 2023 | Jeff Axtell

The Howells-Dodge Boys Basketball Team fell 56-26 to Johnson-Brock in the first round of the State Tournament from the Devaney Center in action aired on 107.9 the Bull Wednesday night.

The Eagles led 7-3 after the 1st quarter, and outscored Howells-Dodge 28-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 35-7 lead into the locker room.

Johnson-Brock won the 3rd quarter 14-8 to make it a 49-15 game at the end of three.

The Jaguars won the 4th quarter 11-7.

Lance Brester paced Howells-Dodge with 9 points.

Tough loss and a tough way to end the season and go out for the Jaguars.

Howells-Dodge ends their season at 20-7.

I have to admit I was not expecting this result at State.

I thought the Jaguars would make things a lot closer than they did.

If there’s any silver lining to it all though Johnson-Brock ended up winning the whole thing.

That means Howells-Dodge played the best of the best at State.

Granted the Jaguars still laid an egg, but Howells-Dodge lost to the best team in Class D-1.

Howells-Dodge says goodbye to Brester, Aiden Meyer, Brittin Sindelar, Kellen Fiala, and Aandy Dominguez.

These are five very talented Seniors who will be missed big time.

Key returners for next year include Nathan Hegemann, Nathan Tomcak, Connor Kreikemeier, Colton Klosen, and Oscar Dominguez.

The Jaguars have a big Senior Class coming back next year and figure to make another run at things again in 2023-2024.
