Hooper-Scribner Splits Legion Baseball Doubleheader with Hartington

SCRIBNER – Hooper-Scribner split a Legion baseball doubleheader with Hartington in Scribner Wednesday night, June 23, in a pair of games aired on 107.9 The Bull.

Hartington won the Juniors game 20-5 while Hooper-Scribner took the Seniors game 6-3.

Hooper-Scribner struck first in the Juniors game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead.

Hartington answered right back in the top of the second inning, scoring five runs to take a 5-3 lead.

Neither team scored again until the bottom of the fourth, when Hooper-Scribner plated two runs, tying the game 5-5.

Things went off the rails for Hooper-Scribner in the top half of the fifth inning, as Hartington sent 21 batters to the plate and scored 15 runs on eight hits in the inning. Since Hooper-Scribner was unable to answer in the bottom half, Hartington won the game 20-5 after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Chance Foust had a single, double and three RBIs for the Hooper-Scribner Juniors. Justus Weidemann and Josh Egbers both pitched in the loss.

In the Seniors game, Both teams scored right away and the game was tied 1-1 after the first inning.

Neither team scored again until Hartington added a run in the top of the sixth, taking a 2-1 lead.

Hooper-Scribner responded in the bottom half of the inning, bringing across five runs to gain a 6-2 lead.

Hartington scored once more in the top of the seventh, making the final 6-3.

Hooper-Scribner was able to earn the win despite stranding 10 baserunners in the game.

Keaton Bushlow recorded two singles and an RBI, with Connor Larson also adding an RBI base hit.

Larson was strong on the mound for Hooper-Scribner, allowing the three runs on three hits, three walks and a hit batter, while amassing 15 strike outs.

Next up, the Ralph Bishop League Tournament starts Saturday, June 26 and runs through Saturday, July 3.
