Fischer Statement on president Biden’s 2023 SOTU
February 8th, 2023 | Office of Sen. Deb Fischer

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) released the following statement after President Biden delivered his State of the Union address:

“Tonight, President Biden failed to offer serious solutions to the chaos at our southern border. Photo ops and lip service will not offset the actions this administration has taken that worsened this crisis.

“The President should have more forcefully called out China as a threat to global security – especially when all we’ve seen from this administration is indecisiveness on the world stage and two years of totally inadequate defense budget proposals. Were it not for bipartisan congressional action, this administration would have undercut the modernization of our nuclear deterrent while China rapidly expands its nuclear arsenal.

“As Nebraskans know, international trade is vital to the livelihood of our state and its people. That’s why I was disappointed the President failed to articulate a trade policy agenda that helps American producers continue to feed and fuel the world.

“Biden spun a number of economic data points as proof his out-of-control spending has worked. Well, the American people disagree,
with four in ten Americans noting they are worse off financially now than when President Biden took office.

“President Biden must change course and work with us over the next two years to stop reckless spending, get our economy back on track, secure our borders, and invest in our military men and women. The American people deserve results.”
