James Charles Vitamvas, 75, of Lincoln

James Charles Vitamvas, 75, of Lincoln, passed away after a long battle with cancer on May 31, 2023 at his home in Lincoln.

Memorials can be directed towards family wishes for later designation.

Per Jim’s wishes there will be no funeral or visitation; a private family committal service will be held at a later date with burial at the Linwood Hill Cemetery. Svoboda Funeral Home is assisting Jim’s family with arrangements.

James Charles Vitamvas was born on February 16, 1948 in Columbus, Nebraska to Arthur J. and Mabel A. (Glodowski) Vitamvas. Jim attended school in Rogers at District. 56; was confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Schuyler and graduated from the Schuyler High School in 1966.

Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967. He was a student of the Nike Hercules Missile Electronic School and then became an Instructor in High Altitude Missile Dept. Ft. Bliss TX.
He was in the 37th Arty. Detachment 558th Group, Athens, Greece as an advisor to the Greek Air Force on missile electronics and a member of the American Warhead Team. He received an Honorable Discharge, National Defense Service Medal, and Sharpshooter medals.

Following his military service he moved to Lincoln, NE where he resided until his death. Jim was an engineer for Nebraska Public Television with over 30 years of service.

He is survived by three brothers, Richard, Aurora Colorado, Gary (Diane) Fremont Nebraska, Dean, Fremont Nebraska. Four nephews, Jason (Ellie) Vitamvas, Lily & Zach, Orange City, Iowa, Jeremy (Jamie) Vitamvas, Gage & Finn, Elkhorn Nebraska. Jesse (Arianne) Vitamvas & Charlotte, Fremont Nebraska. Riley Vitamvas, Omaha Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece Mary Vitamvas.
