Harold Charles Ockander, age 99, of Bancroft, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender, NE. Funeral services will be on Friday, October 8, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft, NE. Burial will be in the Bancroft City Cemetery. The visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft.
Harold was born September 2, 1922, on a farm in Cuming County north of Bancroft, Nebr. He was the only child born to William B. and Frida (Reuter) Ockander. Harold farmed with his Dad. Harold spent his life in the Bancroft area. Harold’s retirement passion was going to the horse tracks in Nebraska and betting on the “ponies”. Harold helped his mother with the garden on the farm and did have a garden when he lived in Bancroft after moving off the farm. Harold did become a resident of the Pender community in 2008 living at Prairie Breeze Assisted Living. He shared with the staff his fudge recipe and made many batches for the residents and staff. Harold had his car at the assisted living and would frequently be seen at the local casinos with other residents. Harold did have a special friend, Janet Anderson that did reacquaint with after moving to Pender. She provided companionship going to casinos, horse races, and then after he moved into Legacy Garden they would play Bingo or cards.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents.
