Don K. Uhing, 83 years, of Uehling, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Nye Legacy in Fremont, Nebraska. Catholic Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, 10:00 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tekamah, NE with burial in the Argo Cemetery, rural Uehling, NE. Visitation will be held Monday, from 5-7 p.m. with Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Oakland. Donald Keith Uhing of Uehling, Nebraska was born January 7, 1938, to Carl and Catherine (Wortman) Uhing in rural Burt County, Nebraska. He was the youngest of eleven children and grew up in rural Bertha. He passed away June 17, 2021, at Nye Legacy surrounded by his family in Fremont, Nebraska, at the age of 83.
Don married Shirley Wagner on August 22, 1962, in Tekamah, Nebraska. To this union were born three children: Jay, Lisa, and Kevin. Don and Shirley moved to rural Craig in 1966 and raised their family on the family farm. In 2007 they moved to Uehling where they lived for 14 years.
Don was a lifelong farmer and loved anything to do with the farm. He loved to spend time with his family, eat ice-cream, watch his grandchildren’s ball games, watch his grandchildren show cattle and loved National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation movie. Most Sundays you would find Don and Shirley touring the countryside and getting a bite to eat with Brett. Don was referred to by many as the “happy farmer”, no matter what, he would always greet others with a big wave and a huge smile.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Catherine Uhing; brothers, Arthur, Eugene, Herbert, Ben, John and Carl Uhing; sisters, Dorothy Von Seggern, Olivia Hare, Agnes Petersen; father and mother-in-law, Earl and Ethel Wagner
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley of Fremont
