Gering police are investigating an accident early this morning that damaged the newly laid sod at the Gering Plaza.

Investigator James Jackson says it appears a vehicle inadvertently traveled into the grassy area  in the alley between N and O streets. Jackson says

Jackson says from talking to witnesses the damage to an estimated 150 square feet of sod occurred around 2 a.m. and they will be looking at surveillance cameras in the area to help identify the car and driver. Jackson says there was no damage to any other parks, so it appears to be an isolated incident.

City parks director Ron Ernest says the cost of the damage is estimated at $200. He says his crews removed the damaged, and will install new sod tomorrow. today Jackson encourages the person involved to come forward on their own.
