Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney head volleyball coach Rick Squiers today announced Illinois native Hannah Scherder will play for the Lopers in the fall. The 6-1 middle blocker from Peoria joins four other high school seniors and transfer Madison Squiers as UNK recruits to date. The Lopers had five seniors and a graduate transfer on last year’s 33-4 MIAA Championship squad. As a senior, Scherder led the Dunlap High Eagles in both kills (228) and blocks (30.5). Tabbed first-team all-conference, she also led the league in blocks by a middle.
“Although a bit of a late bloomer, Hannah has all the makings of an outstanding collegiate middle. As she continues to gain experience, her combination of length, speed, and work ethic will help her develop quickly. She has a very high ceiling and we are looking forward helping her reach her potential as Loper,” said Squiers. Part of a 2016 regional champion volleyball team and a soccer letterwinner, Scherder plays for the Central Illinois Elite during the club volleyball season. UNK wrapped up its 2018 spring season over the weekend with fall camp set to begin in early August.
