State Track & Field: Top performances from the weekend

State Track & Field: Top performances from the weekend

The State Track and Field Championships wrapped up on Saturday at Burke Stadium in Omaha.

There were plenty of highlights from area athletes over the two day event, and here’s some of the highlights.

Class B

  • The Scottsbluff boys team finished in third place in the overall Class B standings, finishing with 39 points. Beatrice was the state champ with 55 points and Boys Town finished second with 43 points.
  • Chris Busby of Scottsbluff won the STATE TITLE in the 100 meters, clocking a time of 10.90. Teammate Jeremiah Delzer finished 5th in the 100.
  • In the 200 meters it was Delzer with a 2nd place finish at 22.97 while Busby finished 5th.
  • Gering’s Wade Blue finished his career with a 2nd place in the shot put. Blue’s best throw was 53 ft-7 inches. Husker football recruit Cameron Jurgens was the winner at 59 ft-3.75 inches.
  • Also with a strong finish to his HS career for Gering was Xavier Arellano. Arellano came up short of defending his state title in the 1,600 meters but he finished fourth in a time of 4:28.51
  • The Scottsbluff girls just missed out on two medalists in the 1,600 meters. Senior Kaylee Bentley finished 4th with a time of 5:21.23 while freshman, Brooke Holzworth came in 9th place.
  • Bentley finished 3rd in the 3,200 meters.
  • Mana Garcia came up big in the 100 meter hurdles for Scottsbluff with a 5th place finish.
  • In the pole vault for Scottsbluff it was Beretta Coats scoring four points with a 5th place finish
  • Yara Garcia, Scottsbluff, finished with a medal in the 400 meters, coming in 7th in the finals.

Class C

  • The Mitchell boys 400 meter relay team (Ryan Aguallo, Drake Gilliland, Jacob Flowers, Kadin Perez) captured gold in a winning time of 44.02. Mitchell has now won the state title in the 4×1 at state four straight years.
  • Mitchell’s Kadin Perez finished 8th in the 100 meters.
  • Justin Spencer of Mitchell finished 4th in the pole vault at 14 feet even.
  • On the girls side for the Lady Tigers you had Jori Peters finished 4th in the 800 meters and also ran on Mitchell’s 2nd place 1,600 meter relay team along with Victoria Schwartz, Natasha Perez, and Olivia Armstrong.
  • The Bridgeport boys scored 9 team points and they all came in one event. Jack Linders captured a 2nd place in the 800 meters while teammate Declan Jeffries came in 8th place.
  • Kimball’s Brady Kilgore, just a junior, finished 2nd in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 15.17.

Class D

Action in Class D was highlighted by a pair of state champions on the girls side of things.

  • MaKenna Dahlgrin of Banner County took home the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet even.
  • Potter-Dix’s Trinity Langley was the top performer in the high jump at 5 ft-2 inches.
  • Back to Dahlgrin, she scored all 15 points for Banner County, tacking on a five point, 4th place finish in the discus.
  • Mullen finished with a 4th place overall finish in the boys team standings.
  • Crawford’s Aaron Alcorn came up big in the high jump, finishing tied for 2nd at 6 ft-4 inches.
