State tennis tournament comes to close for local players

State tennis tournament comes to close for local players

The 2017 State Tennis Tournament in Lincoln has come to a close for all local players and teams.

Panhandle participants went a combined 1-11 at this years event in Lincoln.

The lone win today came from Gering’s no. 2 doubles team of Sheridan Blanco and Paige Peterson. The Lady Bulldog tandem won a three set match against Nebraska City 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to move into a second round match this afternoon.

That was the only win, combined, for Gering, Scottsbluff, and Alliance.

In Round two of no. 2 doubles Blanco and Peterson were defeated by the team from Omaha Duchesne Academy 6-1, 6-0.

Gering

No. 1 singles: Chloe Dworak, Lincoln Christian DEF Bobby Claflin 6-0, 6-0

No. 2 singles: Aruna Bashir, Brownwell-Talbot/Concordia DEF Annessa Escamilla 6-3, 6-1

No. 2 doubles: Sheridan Blanco/Paige Peterson DEF Nebraska City 6-3, 4-6, 6-3

Scottsbluff

No. 1 singles: Ameya Kutty, Brownwell-Talbot/Concordia DEF Rachel Hancock 6-0, 6-0

No. 2 singles: Kaetlyn Keffeler, Holdrege DEF Sarah Woodward 6-1, 6-1

No. 1 doubles: Brownwell-Talbot/Concordia DEF Alisha Huynh/Moria Wyre 7-6 (11-9), 6-2

No. 2 doubles: Hastings St. Cecilia DEF Tieesha Alsides/Brooke Desha 6-2, 6-4

Alliance

No. 1 singles: Kelly Friend, Omaha Skutt Catholic DEF Courtney Little Hoop 6-2, 6-2

No. 2 singles: Brittany Giles, Nebraska City DEF Alivia Carlson 6-1, 6-1
