YORK – Johan Rodriguez (SO/Texas City, Texas) led the Panthers once again in the win over Southwestern College Tuesday afternoon. After Rodriguez scored two times last year against the Moundbuilders, he scored and assisted in the Panthers 3-1 win this time around.
Rodriguez took throw in from Albert Bajrami (FR/Ravenna, Italy) at his feet before making a couple moves to create the smallest of space to get a shot off in the 33rd minute of play. That small space was just enough to get the back side of the goal for the 1-0 lead.
Eleven minutes later it was Rodriguez providing the assist to Rodrigo Saldana (FR/Pico Rivera, Calif) for the 2-0 just before the break. Rodriguez received the ball on the endline just inside the penalty area and played a ball back up toward the top of the 18′ where Saldana ripped the shot in.
Albert Bajrami increased the Panthers lead to 3-0 in the 76th minute with his header sent from Artuor Gutierrez III on the free kick. Bajrami elevated above everyone else in the goal box and headed home the kick toward the near post.
Southwestern scored with under five minutes to play but the Panthers were able to hold off any comeback by the visitors to claim the victory.
Francisco Esteves (SO/Tomar, Portugal) picked up the win in goal for the Panthers, who improve to 5-1 on the season. York will travel to Ottawa University on Saturday afternoon for their next KCAC match.
