Omaha Softball Splits Doubleheader with North Dakota State

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha split a doubleheader Thursday afternoon against North Dakota State, losing the first game 6-1, before winning the nightcap, 2-1. The Mavericks are now 14-25 on the season (2-5 Summit League) while the Bison are now 21-13 (1-1).

Game 1 – North Dakota State 6, Omaha 1
NDSU’s Jacquelyn Sertic (16-7) threw a complete game for the win, limiting Omaha to one run on three hits and a walk with 12 strikeouts. Laura Roecker (1-6) took the loss, surrendering six runs (three earned) on eight hits and three walks while striking out five over 6.0 innings.

Emily Klosterman scored Omaha’s only run after singling in the fifth. Demi Dobbs doubled and had an RBI. Kelly Pattison also doubled for the Mavericks.

The Bison jumped out to a 2-0 led in the first. Maddie Hansen reached on a fielder’s choice and moved to second on Vanessa Anderson’s single to left field. Hansen scored on Montana DeCamp’s infield hit, and Anderson scored on a throwing error by the Maverick third baseman.

North Dakota State used two hits and an error to double its lead in the second inning. Katie Shoultz walked and moved to third on Brea Beatty’s single. Shoultz came in to score, and Beatty advanced to third on Zoe Stavrou’s base hit. Beatty then scored on a throwing error by Omaha’s catcher to make the score 4-0.

In the fifth, Klosterman reached on a one-out single. Dobbs then laced a double down the left field line to cut the lead to 4-1.

DeCamp hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to increase NDSU’s lead to 6-1.

Sertic retired the next six Omaha batters for the complete-game victory.

Game 2 – Omaha 2, North Dakota State 1
Sydney Hampton (9-10) earned the win for Omaha, throwing a complete game with three hits, four walks, and two strikeouts. KK Leddy (4-5) took the loss, surrendering two runs on four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.

Emily Klosterman led the Mavericks at the plate with a double and two RBI. Aubrey Hacke (1-for-3, double), Kelly Pattison (1-for-3) and Jessica Nelson (1-for-3, run scored) each had hits for Omaha.

After a scoreless three innings, UNO struck first with two runs in the fourth. Emma Dargy worked a one-out walk and moved to third on Nelson’s single up the middle. Klosterman then hit the first pitch she saw to right center field for a two-run double.

North Dakota State got on the board in the fifth. Dani Renner lofted a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence to cut the lead to 2-1. DeCamp walked and moved to third on a groundout with two outs. Hampton then got a fly ball out to prevent any further damage.

The Mavericks put runners on second and third with two outs in the sixth but were unable to score.

North Dakota State put runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Beatty reached on a fielding error by the Omaha second baseman, but Stephanie Soriano was thrown out at home to end the game.
