NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – Freshman Kyla Moore (Norfolk, Neb.) has stepped up in big ways for the Northeast women’s basketball team this season.
In 23 minutes of action, Moore recorded 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and three 3-pointers, guiding the Hawks (4-2) to a 76-42 victory over North Platte Community College on Tuesday night in North Platte, Neb.
After scoring 21 points in the first quarter, the Hawks defense held North Platte to just 21 points in the entire first half. A 13-point third quarter, followed by 27 points in the fourth quarter sealed the victory for Northeast.
Newcomer Macey Kulhanek (Howells, Neb.) has been a proven asset off the bench for head coach Matt Svehla. She tallied 13 points in six minutes on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. Lauren Hunstad (Parker, S.D.) added 11 points and four boards, while Teagan Pompa (Elgin, Ill.) had 10 points.
The Hawks shot 48 percent from the field and 42 percent from beyond the arc, compared to a 22-percent shooting performance by North Platte.
Northeast returns home for a non-conference match-up with Cloud County Community College at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
