CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The potent offense from Kirkwood Community College was too much for the Northeast Community College softball team on Monday as the Hawks fell 9-1 and 8-0 in ICCAC play in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Hawks (2-30, 0-14 ICCAC) managed to push across a run in the fifth inning off a Jacqueline Denning (Sacramento, Calif.) RBI double. But, the Northeast bats were held in check for the rest of the game. Lindsey Anderson (Dunlap, Iowa) and Sydney Kelley (Omaha, Neb.) had the other two hits for Northeast.
Madison McKewon (Springfield, Neb.) tossed six innings, allowing seven earned runs off five hits.
Kirkwood took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first in the final game of the doubleheader and never looked back, while allowing just five hits to the opposition.
Chantel Julian (Roseville, Calif.) was 2-for-2 in the loss.
Anderson was tagged with the loss, tossing five innings, allowing four earned runs off nine hits.
Northeast continues conference play, taking on Marshalltown Community College in a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m. tomorrow in Marshalltown, Iowa.
