NORFOLK, Neb. – All five starters for the Northeast Community College men’s basketball team scored in double figures on Tuesday night, including a pair of double-doubles from Daniel Akuei and Joel Ufele as the Hawks rolled York College JV 100-83 at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
Leading by 27 points early in the second half, the Hawks showcased their shooting ability in their first home game of the season. Northeast went on to shoot 48 percent from the field, connecting on 39 shots and 16 shot from beyond the arc.
Freshman Emmette Page (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the Hawks with 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field, including five 3-pointers and four assists. Page did most of his damage in the first half, connecting on two 3-pointers early in the game to give the Hawks a 10-point cushion, forcing York to call a timeout.
At the end of the first half, Page and sharp-shooting forward Seth Coatta (Minnetonka, Minn.) led the Hawks with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Coatta finished the night going 7-of-14 from the field for 20 points and five boards.
Local standout Ben Moxness (Scribner, Neb.) gave the Hawks a stout performance off the bench, grabbing 13 points and five boards. Ufele and Akuei both finished with 10 points and 10 boards. Sophomore Moses Byekwaso (London, United Kingdom) added 12 points and five rebounds.
The Hawks out-rebounded the Panthers 50-36.
Northeast is back in action on Friday as they host the Hawks Classic, taking on Iowa Central Community College at 8 p.m., before squaring off with Iowa Lakes Community College at 6 p.m. Saturday in Norfolk.
