No. 9 Midland Sweeps Briar Cliff

The Briar Cliff women’s volleyball team suffered a 3-0 sweep at the hands of No. 9 Midland Friday night at the Newman Flanagan Center. The loss dropped the Chargers to 11-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while the Warriors improved to 12-3 overall and 5-0 in the GPAC.

Midland won in 3-0 in straight sets by scores of 20-25, 18-25 and 22-25. The Chargers hit .139 in the contest with 31 kills and 16 errors on 108 attacks. BC also piled up 30 assists, two aces, 39 digs and 9.0 blocks. Comparatively, the Warriors hit .314 in the match with 47 kills and 15 errors on 102 attacks to go with 42 assists, five aces, 49 digs and 6.0 blocks.

Toni Beck paced the Cliff in kills with 11, followed by Melissa Ditter with six, Kiaya Aldersonadded five and Emily Sanburg notched four K’s. Delaney Meyer accounted for 16 assists and Laura Barry added 11 helpers. Breanne Hankins recorded a team-high nine digs, trailed by Katie Berg with eight and Meyer with six. Beck also had a team leading five blocks.

Priscilla O’Dowd and Jenny Bair both had 12 kills for the Warriors and Jessica Peters had 36 assists. Jessica Nekl led Midland with 19 digs.

Briar Cliff will face another top-10 opponent on Saturday, hosting No. 1 Hastings at 5 p.m.
