SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Junior Mackenzie Lose (JR/Indianola, IA) (Indianola, Iowa) belted a pair of home runs including a grand slam to lead a 23-hit, 22-run assault Tuesday, April 2.
Lose got the first game of a non-conference twin bill against North Star Athletic Association foe Dakota State University off on a high note, sending a pitch over the left field fence at the Siouxland Youth Association Riverside Park #2 field. Freshman Carrington Entringer (FR/Baltic, SD) (Baltic, S.D.), freshman Ellie Cropley (FR/Sioux City, IA) (Sioux City, Iowa) and senior Rebecca Riley(SR/Gothenburg, NE) (Gothenburg, Neb.) added extra-base, run-scoring hits to propel an 11-0, five-inning victory. Senior pitcher Hallie Misiaszek (SR/Mitchell, SD) (Mitchell, S.D.) was the benefactor of the blitzkrieg, no-hitting the Lady T’s until a fifth-inning single as part of a complete-game, eight-strikeout shutout.
Game two saw more of the same from head coach Jessica Jones-Sitzmann‘s squad. Moving to 11-6 on the season, the Maroon posted 10 runs over the first two innings, led by four RBI from freshman Morgan Nixon (FR/Omaha, NE) (Omaha, Neb.) and two RBI off the bat of junior Cortney Joiner (JR/Carlisle, IA) (Carlisle, Iowa). Sophomore Alex Nelson (SO/Sioux Falls, SD) (Sioux Falls, S.D.) added a second straight complete-game pitching effort, striking out four over five frames.
