SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Propelled by a pair of magnificent pitching efforts from senior Hallie Misiaszek(SR/Mitchell, SD) (Mitchell, S.D.), Morningside College ran its win streak to nine Tuesday, April 9.
The Mustangs, improving to 17-6 overall and 10-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, toppled the visiting Bulldogs of Concordia University of Nebraska 4-2 and 4-1 in front of a happy crowd gathered at Jensen Family Softball Complex. Misiaszek, taking her season mark to 10-2 and winning for the 31st and 32nd times in 41 decisions for the Maroon, was nothing short of spectacular. She gave up only one earned run and struck out six in the opener and then took the ball again in the nightcap, surrendering a solo home run in the first and then setting down 15 CU hitters in a row until a leadoff single in the top of the seventh ended the run. Misiaszek needed just 75 pitches to conclude her sixth straight start with a win.
Morningside’s offense was more than up to the task of providing their stellar senior hurler with run support. Junior Mackenzie Lose (JR/Indianola, IA) (Indianola, Iowa) hit a clutch two-run homer in game one that hit the top of the left-center field fence and bounced out of the JFSC field to spotlight a two-hit effort and senior Rebecca Riley (SR/Gothenburg, NE) (Gothenburg, Neb.) added two hits in the first match-up. Freshman McKenna Becker (FR/Elkhorn, NE) (Elkhorn, Neb.) sparked the attack in game two with two hits, while fellow first-year student-athlete Ellie Cropley (FR/Sioux City, IA) (Sioux City, Iowa) cracked a home center to center field.
The 2019 GPAC schedule is slated to resume Friday, April 12, with a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Dordt College.
