Morningside is ranked fourth in the nation in the NAIA Football Coaches’ Top 25 Poll released on October 9.
The Mustangs, also ranked fourth in last week’s poll, improved their record to 6-0 with a 76-21 Homecoming blowout victory against No. 22 Dakota Wesleyan University last Saturday in Sioux City. The victory improved Morningside’s record to 3-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) as the Mustangs pursue their seventh consecutive GPAC championship.
Morningside features the most prolific offensive attack in the nation as the NAIA national leader with averages of 54.5 points and 611.7 yards total offense per game.
Morningside has been ranked in the NAIA Top 25 for 131 consecutive polls for the nation’s longest active streak of Top 25 rankings. The Mustangs also have the nation’s longest active streak with 13 consecutive NAIA Championship Series appearances. Morningside has a 140-27 record for a .838 winning percentage since the start of the 2004 season.
Morningside is one of four teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) in the NAIA Top 25. Aside from Morningside, Northwestern College is 17th and Doane University and Hastings College are tied for 19th.
The Mustangs will face city rival Briar Cliff University this Saturday in a 1 p.m. contest at Memorial Field.
