AMES, Iowa – Junior guard Bridget Carleton captured Big 12 Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday. The award is Carleton’s eighth Big 12 weekly honor, as she earned Freshman of the Week five times in 2015-16 and Player of the Week twice as a sophomore in 2016-17.
Carleton was phenomenal in the fourth quarter against South Dakota, as she scored 19 fourth-quarter points to erase the Cyclones 54-51 third quarter deficit. Carleton we went 5-of-6 from the floor, netting 19 points, two rebounds, one assist and a steal in the fourth quarter alone. Her 19 fourth quarter points were also a school record for points in a quarter. Carleton also dished the game-winning assist with 40 seconds left. She finished the game with a full stat sheet with a game-high 24 points, seven rebounds, team-highs in assists (4) and steals (3), while going 7-of-12 from the floor.
Carleton was also recently named to the Cheryl Miller Award Preseason List, which honors the nation’s top small forward. She was one of just 20 player in the country to make the season’s first list.
