AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State softball program released its 2018 schedule Thursday, and Jamie Pinkerton‘s debut season as the Cyclones’ head coach will be featured by 13 home contests, including three Big 12 series at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
The Cyclones are currently scheduled to play 56 regular season games in 2018, with 19 of those contests pitting Iowa State against teams that appeared in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, including a three-game series in Ames against Oklahoma, two-time defending National Champions.
Iowa State opens the year with 36 consecutive games away from home, including six tournaments on the road, spanning five different states. The action starts at the Coastal Carolina Tournament in Conway, S.C. (Feb. 9-11), followed by a trip to Las Vegas, Nev. for the DeMarini Desert Classic, hosted by UNLV (Feb. 16-18). The Cyclones close the month in Gainesville, Fla., at the Aquafina Invitational (Feb. 23-25), hosted by 2017 NCAA finalist Florida.
The Cyclones return to the Sunshine State the following weekend for a tournament in Jacksonville, Fla., hosted by Jacksonville University (March 2-4). Iowa State’s spring break trip, which will span 10 days, starts in Houston, Texas with five games at a tournament hosted by the University of Houston, March 9-11. ISU then travels north for games at UT-Arlington (March 13) and North Texas (March 14). The road trip ends March 16-18 at the Woo Pig Classic, in Fayetteville, Ark.
Big 12 play opens the following weekend, as Iowa State travels to Stillwater, Okla. for a three-game series against 2017 NCAA qualifier Oklahoma State, March 23-25. Iowa State fans will get their first opportunity to see the Cyclones play at home when they face Texas in a three-game series, March 29-31. Iowa State got its first-ever series win over Texas a season ago, taking two of three games off the Longhorns in Austin.
Softball will resume at the Cyclone Sports Complex later that week, as Iowa State takes on in-state foe Drake in a mid-week contest on April 4. The Cyclones will then welcome 2017 NCAA Champion Oklahoma to Ames with a three-game series April 6-8 to close out a seven-game home stand.
Iowa State takes a break from Big 12 action with games at UNI (April 11) and vs. Western Illinois at home (April 14). The Cyclones will then head to Lubbock, Texas to battle the Red Raiders, April 20-22.
Iowa State returns home for its final four home games of the season, starting on April 25 with the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk showdown vs. Iowa. The Cyclones then take on Baylor, April 27-29, at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
The Cyclones close out the 2017 regular season with a three-game series at Kansas, May 4-6. This will mark the second season with a Big 12 Softball Championship. The tournament, which was reinstated in 2017, will return to Oklahoma City, Okla., May 11-12, at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium Complex, also home to the NCAA Women’s College World Series.
