The Nebraska Girls State Tennis Tournament has come to a close for all area Class B participants from Gering, Scottsbluff, and Alliance.
There were some solid showings over the first couple of rounds, especially for the Gering Lady Bulldogs.
Zoee Smith, a sophomore from Gering, was able to pick up a convincing round one win over an unseeded opponent from Ralston, 6-1, 6-1 was the final.
Smith then bowed out against top seed and undefeated at 43-0, Kassidy Michaelis of McCook, a respectable final of 6-1, 6-1.
At no. 2 singles for Gering it was Kristen Whaley with a first round win over her opponent from Omaha Roncalli Catholic, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (10-8).
Whaley then dropped her round two match to #4 seed, Courtney Toner, of Grand Island Central Catholic at 6-2, 6-1.
Gering also advanced their no. 1 doubles team of Bobbie Claflin and Paige Peterson after a 6-2, 6-4 win over Lexington.
Claflin and Peterson fell in their round two match to the team from Omaha Duchesne Academy 6-2, 6-4.
At no. 2 doubles Gering (Martika Campbell/Yadbir Kaur) lost their opener 6-0, 6-0.
Scottsbluff suffered losses at no. 1 and no. 2 singles from Brooke Desha and Emma Herman. The Lady Cats also took round one defeats at no. 1 doubles (Brigette Locker/Haily Wilkins) and no. 2 doubles (Taylor Klein/Hayden Wilkins).
Alliance went 1-3 in first round matches with the lone win coming from the no. 2 doubles team of Marque Crowe and Diana Acosta. They then dropped a second round match to the team from Holdrege.
