Omaha, Neb. — Senior Ryan Tapani and sophomore Will Robertson claimed American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Region recognition on Wednesday, June 13th. Tapani was named to the Midwest All-Region First Team, while Robertson earned a spot on the Midwest All-Region Second Team.
The Bluejay ace collected 10 wins (10-1) in 14 starts, finishing his Bluejay career tied for the best winning percentage in school history at 13-2 (.867). Ryan tossed 94.1 innings in 2018, collecting 95 strikeouts and an impressive 2.38 ERA. In BIG EAST action, the right-hander was 4-1 in six starts. Tapani also earned Second-Team All-America honors from the NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) on Wednesday. Ryan was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 21st round with the 641st pick of the MLB draft. He has already signed with the Nationals and has reported to Florida for assignment.
Robertson wrapped up a monster season with a league-high 59 RBI in just 50 games. Will smashed 12 home runs and 17 doubles to lead Creighton in both categories. In conference action, Robertson’s 15 RBI ranked third, despite playing one fewer game than most in the conference. Will is spending the summer playing the Cap Cod League, the top collegiate summer baseball league.
