Creighton’s Lamberty Claims BIG EAST Player of the Week

Omaha, Neb. — Senior Sydney Lamberty capped a 3-0 week for Creighton women’s basketball by earning the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, Jan. 29th. Lamberty led Creighton to overtime wins at Xavier (Jan. 22) and again at home over Seton Hall on Jan. 28. She also guided the Bluejays to a victory over St. John’s on Friday, Jan. 26.

During the week Lamberty averaged a double-double with 16.3 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game. She also dished out 17 assists and shot 58.1% (18-of-31) from the field. The senior’s rebounding mark was tops in the BIG EAST last week, while her assists average listed second and scoring was fifth. In Monday’s win at Xavier, Lamberty notched her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 15 boards, then followed with 13 points, eight rebounds and six dimes against St. John’s on Friday. She capped her week with a 21-point, eight-rebound, six-assist outing in Sunday’s victory over Seton Hall to keep the Bluejays in a tie for third place in the BIG EAST standings. This is Lamberty’s first career BIG EAST Player of the Week certificate.

Lamberty and the Bluejays return to action on Friday, Feb. 2nd as Creighton begins a tough road weekend at DePaul. Two days later the Bluejays face Marquette in Milwaukee.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Qadashah Hoppie, St. John’s, Fr., G
Hoppie was the top-scoring rookie last week, averaging 13.0 points in a pair of road games. The freshman shot .444 from the field and added 2.0 rebounds on the week, which was highlighted by a 19-point, four-rebound afternoon at Providence on Sunday, adding two steals and two assists. Through 11 BIG EAST games, Hoppie is the top-scoring freshman at 12.4 points per game and leads St. John’s overall with an 11.4 clip.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
JaQuan Jackson, Seton Hall, R-Sr., G
Jackson finished second in the league in scoring last week, averaging 21.5 points in a pair of road games. The redshirt-senior made 7-of-10 attempts from the field in Friday’s win at Providence and was a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe over two games.
Whitney Jennings, Butler, R-Jr., G
Jennings was the BIG EAST’s top scorer last week, averaging 24.0 points, .593 shooting and 5.0 rebounds in games against Georgetown and NR/RV Villanova. The redshirt-junior’s week was highlighted by a 29-point afternoon against the Wildcats.
Alex Louin, Villanova, Sr., G
In a 2-0 road weekend for the Wildcats, Louin averaged 16.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists, including a 24-point, six-rebound, four-assist showing in Friday’s win at Xavier.
Jovana Nogic, Providence, Jr., G
In a 1-1 week for the Friars, Nogic averaged 19.0 points and 2.5 steals, highlighted by a 27-point outing in Sunday’s win over St. John’s. The junior shot nearly 64 percent from deep on the week, making 7-of-11 attempts from beyond the arc.
Dionna White, Georgetown, Jr., G
In a 2-0 week for the Hoyas, White averaged 16.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.5 steals. The junior shot 50 percent in Friday’s win at Xavier, totaling 19 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three dimes.
