Creighton Softball Adds Pair of Transfers For Upcoming Season

OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton softball head coach Brent Vigness announced the addition of two transfers, Laura Roecker and Nicole Simonson, who will join the team this fall in preparation for the 2019 season. Roecker transfers from Nebraska-Omaha with one year of eligibility remaining, while Simonson heads to Creighton from Southern Utah with two years of eligibility.

Roecker, a native of Elkhorn, Nebraska, spent the past three seasons as a Maverick pitcher at UNO. The two-time Second Team All-Summit League performer (2016, 2017) earned Summit League Pitcher of the Week status twice during the 2018 season. The rising senior appeared in 23 games last season, including 14 starts. As a sophomore (2017), Roecker recorded 10 victories as well as three saves during a Maverick-best 145.2 innings pitched in 39 appearances. She led the Summit League in appearances (42) and starts (35) during her freshman campaign, while ranking second in wins (17), shutouts (4) and innings pitched (184.2).

Simonson patrolled the Southern Utah Thunderbirds’ outfield each of the past two years. The Laguna Niguel, California native, started 44 games last season and ranked second on the team with 130 at-bats. She also committed only two errors during 60 chances while starting 42 games in left field and two in center. As a freshman in 2017, Simonson ranked third on the team with a .307 average with 39 hits during 42 games (40 starts) on her way to 2017 Big Sky All-Conference Honorable Mention Accolades.

Roecker and Simonson are the fifth and sixth Bluejay newcomers for the 2019 season, as Sam Alm, Kiara Mills, Kate Mullally and Kailey Wilson will each be freshman.

Creighton ended the 2018 season with a runner-up finish at the BIG EAST Championship and finished 28-15 overall while going 12-3 in league action (second place). The team also finished the year ranked sixth in Division I with a .409 on-base percentage and 13th in the country with a .316 team batting average.
