Iowa State’s Butler Named All-American By The Athletic

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State junior wide receiver Hakeem Butler was named second-team All-American by The Athletic, the national outlet announced Wednesday.

A native of Baltimore, Md., Butler recorded one of the greatest seasons by a wide receiver in Cyclone history in 2018, breaking the school record for receiving yards in a season with 1,126.

Butler’s big-play ability was on display all season, leading the nation in yards per reception at 22.1. Butler owns 10 of ISU’s 13 longest plays from scrimmage this season, ranking third nationally in 40-yard catches with 10.

Butler, who recorded five 100-yard receiving games, ranks 14th nationally in receiving yards per game (93.8) and his nine TD receptions ties for second in school history, one TD shy from the school record of 10 set last year by Allen Lazard.

Butler currently holds a streak of 27-straight games with a reception, the third-longest string in school history, and his 1,957 career receiving yards ranks fifth in school history.
