Briar Cliff Volleyball sweeps Mount Marty

The Briar Cliff women’s volleyball team put together a dominating 3-0 sweep over Mount Marty Tuesday night at the Newman Flanagan Center. The Cliff won by set scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-20 to push the Chargers to 13-4 overall and 4-4 in the GPAC, while the Lancers dropped to 8-11 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

The Chargers came out clicking on all cylinders, hitting a scorching .591 in the first set with 14 kills and only one error on 22 attacks. For the match, Briar Cliff hit .308 with 48 kills and 16 errors on 104 attacks, while holding Mount Marty to .086 with 26 kills and 17 errors on 105 attacks. BC dominated in all stat categories with advantages in assists (45-25), digs (53-37), blocks (6-3) and aces (3-2).

Nine players had at least two kills for the Cliff with Toni Beck being the only one to notch double figures with 10 K’s. Emily Sanburg was next in kills with nine, followed by Olivia Tomlin and Courtney Schafer with seven apiece. Keely Woods and Melissa both recorded four kills, Kiaya Alderson had three and Brooklyn Tolliver and Tracie Turner both had two kills. Delaney Meyer piled up 22 assists and nearly had a double-double with eight digs, while Laura Barry also had a near double-double with 18 assists and eight digs. Breanne Hankins had a team-high 12 digs and Tolliver was next with nine digs. Tomlin and Woods shared the team lead in blocks with three each.

Rachel Reiff led the Lancers in kills with 10 and Laura Cattle was next with six K’s. Lindsey Jaixen notched 23 assists and Morgan Hay had 10 digs.

Briar Cliff will be on the road this weekend, facing crosstown rival Morningside on Saturday. Opening serve between the Chargers and No. 24 Mustangs is slated for 7 p.m.
