It was a wonderful night of weather for opening night of the legion baseball season on Tuesday night at Cleveland Field.
The Cheyenne Mustangs just didn’t cooperate as the they beat the Westco Zephyrs 6-2 in the head coaching debut of Jeremiah Luber.
Mustang pitching held the Zephyrs to just one hit( a Jack Jones double) through the first six innings and Cheyenne scored a single run in the 3rd and two more in the 5th inning to lead 3-0 as the Z’s came to the plate in the bottom of the 7th.
Westco’s first run of the season scored of a poor decision throwing error by third baseman Brett Thompson. Then the lone RBI of the night for the Z’s came off the bat of Tate Carson, playing his first SR’s game, a ringing opposite field single into right field scoring Paul Panduro.
After the Zephyrs cut the deficit to 3-2 it was Cheyenne rallying right back for two runs in the 8th and they’d score one more in the 9th inning to close out the 6-2 win.
Despite the loss, Coach Luber found plenty to build on.
Jack Jones led the Z’s offensive attack with a 2-4 night including a double.
The lone RBI for Carson in that two run 7th inning.
On the mound it was Trent Richter suffering the tough luck loss. The power righthander tossed the first four innings allowing one un-earned run and striking out five.
Others getting time on the mound last night were Harold Baez, Chase Lovercheck, and Paul Panduro.
