(AUDIO) GACC outlasts Howells-Dodge in High School Football as Minnick scores game winning TD

HOWELLS -Guardian Angels Central Catholic outlasted Howells-Dodge 32-28 in High School Football Action aired on 107.9 the Bull Friday night.

The Jaguars got off to an early 12-0 advantage thanks to a six-yard scoring run by Josh Brester and a 77-yard touchdown dash by Darrin Pokorny.

GACC scored on its second offensive possession of the game, a 12-yard run by Jared Minnick. The two point conversion made it 12-8 Howells-Dodge.

The Jaguars answered right back however, as Charlie Dvorak broke loose for a 37-yard touchdown run. The two point conversion would make it 20-8 Jaguars, and that would be the score at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter belonged to the Bluejays, and they scored on a one-yard plunge by Cash Meier and a 14-yard pass from Kody Steffen to Jadyn Smeal. The game was tied 20-20 heading into halftime.

GACC took its first lead of the game with 21 second left in the third quarter on a six yard pass from Steffen to Blake Pojar, giving the Bluejays a 26-20 advantage after three.

After the Jaguars were turned away on a fourth down attempt and the Bluejays fumbled on the Howells-Dodge five yard line, the Jaguars marched 75 yards and scored with 3:56 left in the game on a 16-yard run by Luke Rocheford. The Jaguars converted for two points and led 28-26.

The Bluejays took over at their own 31, and the drive ended on Jared Minnick’s second rushing touchdown of the night, this time from 10 yards out. The two point attempt was no good, and GACC led 32-28 with 50 seconds left.

Howells-Dodge had one last drive for the win, but threw an inteception to seal the win for GACC.

The Bluejays’ Minnick had 146 yards and two rushing touchdowns, including the game winner with under a minute left to go while Dylan Horejsi had 136 yards on the ground for the Jaguars.

GACC improves to 2-0 on the season and hosts Omaha Brownell Talbot next Friday night. Howells-Dodge is now 1-1 on the year and looks to rebound with a win at Wakefield next Friday night.
