Cedar Bluffs-The BRLD Boys and Girls Basketball Teams picked up big wins at Cedar Bluffs Tuesday night in games that were heard on 107.9 the Bull.
The Wolverines won the Girls game 67-18 and the Boys game 89-24.
In the girls game, BRLD jumped out to a 10-0 run and led 24-8 after the 1st quarter before starting the 2nd quarter on an 18-0 run to build a 42-8 lead.
The Wolverines held a 42-12 halftime advantage.
BRLD outscored the Wildcats 16-2 in the 3rd quarter to lead 58-14 at the end of three.
The Wolverines won the 4th quarter 9-4.
BRLD’s full-court press gave Cedar Bluffs fits as the Wildcats had 34 turnovers, unofficially.
“Yeah I was pleased with how we came out defensively. We pressed them, and forced them into some turnovers early in that 1st quarter,” BRLD Head Coach Rod Peters said.
Vicki Gatzemeyer and Paige Peters each had 12 points to lead BRLD, who improved to 8-2 on the season. Peters scored all of her points on 3’s in about a two-minute span in the 2nd quarter. Kelsey Larsen chipped in 9 while Caragan Tietz registered 8.
Peters says it was a balanced effort. “We were. And all year we have been pretty balanced. We’ve had kids that are able to score. I was pleased that a lot of people got in the scorebook today, but you got to do a better job of finishing out games. There were periods of the game today where we really struggled and turned the ball over.”
Jadyn Vacha had 8 points to pace Cedar Bluffs, who fell to 3-8 on the year.
In the Boys game, the Wolverines surged to a 14-0 1st quarter lead and led 24-4 at the end of one. BRLD outscored Cedar Bluffs 26-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 50-12 lead into the locker room.
The Wolverines won the 3rd quarter 15-7 to go up 65-19 at the end of three.
BRLD dominated the 4th quarter as well, putting up 24 points and holding the Wildcats to just 5.
Will Gatzemeyer and Braxton Bargmann had 12 points apiece to lead the Wolverines, who improved to 8-1 with the win. Kenyan Lovejoy chipped in 10 while Darwin Snyder and Trent Gatewood notched 9 and 8, respectively. Dylan Beutler and Michael Snyder totaled 7 each.
Mason Thiesen had a team-high 11 points for Cedar Bluffs, who fell to 1-9. Hunter Bacon added 8.
BRLD Head Coach Cory Meyer says the Wolverines have really made a commitment on the defensive end of the floor this season. “Yeah we’ve been really focusing on our defense this year. And we’re pretty proud of the way the guys have been doing that. And it’s quite an adjustment going to a man-to-man. Last year running a lot of 2-3 and 1-3-1. And I think the kids are just moving, and they’re hungry and they want it.”
Both BRLD teams host Tekamah-Herman Friday night in games that will be played in Lyons while both Cedar Bluffs teams host Walthill Thursday night.
