Explosions and lack of a dedicated water source hindered the efforts of Alliance firefighters early this morning, as a fire of unknown origin destroyed the Vitalix facility near the Alliance airport.

Firefighters responded just after 1 o’clock this morning to a blaze that was fully involved.

During an interview available on Panhandle Post, Alliance Fire Chief Troy Shoemaker said on their arrival, the north part of the building was already down.  He said there were also numerous explosions, some small and some “not so small.”

Shoemaker said they had to ask for mutual aid to have a water source.

He said the destruction of the facility is not only devastating to Vitalix as a company, but Alliance when it comes to employment.

Shoemaker said the facility is a total loss.
