Country legend Patsy Cline will live again, when Theatre West presents “Always… Patsy Cline.”
The musical will open Wednesday, May 31, at the WNCC Little Theater in Scottsbluff.
The cast and crew, which is local and not so local, had a short rehearsal period of only seven days, before everything had to be on stage and prepared.
“It was truly amazing, Lauren (Newell) showed up with everything just about memorized and Ashley (Felkner) was the same way,” said Patrick Newell, artistic and music director of the show. “The musicians, especially came in ready to go, so it’s been a quick process, but a really good one with all the preparation everyone has done.”
The production has a small cast of Patsy Cline, played by Lauren Newell and Louise Seger, played by Ashley Felkner, rounding out the cast are the musicians, the Bodacious Bobcat Band.
Lauren, is no stranger to Patsy Cline, having been listening and singing her music since she was small.
“Patsy Cline, was one of my grandfather’s favorite,” she said. “Just from listening to his old albums, I taught myself a bunch of Pasty Cline songs.”
Lauren has been traveling around singing Patsy Cline, but this is the first time she will be portraying the Country Music icon.
“Patsy’s music is so soulful,” Lauren said. “She (Pasty) put her heart into every note she sang and I think you can hear that and that’s why she’s still so famous.”
The musical will be on stage Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. through June 3, and June 7-10, with matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
Tickets are available before the show or by stopping at the Theatre West Box office.
